Hi, I'm Krystyna an Australian felt maker and intuitive artist creating pieces of wearable and sculptural art.
I have always been an Artist and from an early age possessed a strong, passionate creative side although I didn’t allow myself to fully acknowledge this until later in life at around the same time I turned 40. This awakening of the art within me also coincided with several significant life changing events which led me into a long and intense healing journey of discovery. This journey has allowed me to fully immerse myself in my creative expression in a profound and meaningful way.
Around 2011 I attended a one-day wet-felting scarf making workshop and my love for this ancient practice of felt making was ignited. Since then, I have studied with various international felt makers both in person and online.
My felted works place an emphasis on my individuality and personal expression. I explore various themes and concepts drawing inspiration from nature, mythology and personal experiences. With the use of symbolism, abstraction and storytelling I am able to add depth and meaning to my pieces.
My ceaseless quest for knowledge has been enhanced over many years by studying Art Therapy, SoulCollage® and being trained as a Visual Journal Creativity Workshop Guidess and Chakradance™ Kids facilitator. I am also a Reiki Master/Teacher.
Themes arising from studying these modalities have informed my work and I attempt to explore and bring these insights and discoveries into the homes and hearts of my collectors.
At the heart of my work is my ability to tune into the subtle magic of feeling into the creative energy that is flowing though my hands and body. This allows me to consciously translate deep emotions and feelings in quite a mysterious way that is both healing and transformative and organically embed them into my work.
Throughout my creative practice I have found it is essential to be willing to take risks and experiment which showcases the artistic possibilities that may arise when ancient techniques meet modern creativity.
The wide range of wool breeds and unusual plant and protein fibres I use allows for the many unique textures, colours and surface design that appears in my contemporary works.
I aspire to create work that is beautiful as well as meaningful. Felt making remains my true passion and I continue to explore and push the boundaries of this enchanting medium.
Process of creating my artworks
My pieces are created by the alchemy of wet-felting. Felt making is an ancient practice dating back around 8,000 years and is thought to predate any woven or knitted textile.
In my work I use the finest Australian merino wool combined with an eclectic array of threads, natural fibres and new and upcycled silks. After adding water and pure soap I use gentle agitation which transforms the individual wool fibres into a solid textile.
love notes
Krystyna’s work moves me deeply and hold these subtle healing energies that I can feel when I look at her art.
There is a depth a richness, a quiet peacefulness and a vibration of love and the earth that speaks to my heart.
